The Greenville Railroad Museum was founded in May of 2005 by Steven Pawlow originally of Bossier City, Louisiana.  Mr. Pawlow has always had a love for America's railroads and their history.  That love was instilled into him by his grandfather, Otis Ray Thompson, of Bossier, Louisiana.  Mr. Thompson worked for forty-eight years as an engineer for Kansas City Southern Railroad.  An interesting note is that as a young man Mr. Thompson trained as a Fireman for the Louisiana & Arkansas Railroad in Greenville, Texas.  In the museum there are railroad artifacts ranging from the early 1900's to the present.  Most of the artifacts on display are a part of Mr. Pawlow's personal collection.

"The mission of the Greenville Railroad Museum is to collect, preserve, and exhibit the history of railroading in the Midsouth & Southwestern United States, in order to engage a diverse audience in appreciating their heritage as a part of the foundation for their future.  The Museum accomplishes this through an archives collection, exhibitions, and programs that enlighten, educate, and entertain all ages."

Greenville Railroad Museum is committed to various current programs as well as the planning of future programs.  The Greenville Holiday Express is one of our programs that was started in November of 2005.  The Greenville Holiday Express consists of over 300 square feet of Lionel and O-gauge trains that run through a Christmas village and towns with Texas charm.  The goal of the program is to raise money to support future projects and increase awareness of the Museum.  The Greenville Holiday Express also provides a safe and fun family activity for the residents of Greenville and the surrounding area.  In 2006 we added a model train and railroad collectibles show to this event.  The most recent project for 2007 is Railfest.  This will include various equipment displays, history presentations, trolley rides, and a whole day of fun for all ages.  Throughout the year we also host movie/slideshow presentations, and tours for groups through the museum.

We are proud to be a part of historic downtown Greenville, and we look forward to being a part of the revitalization of the downtown area.  We hope that through our efforts we can aid in the increase in tourism and quality of life to area residents of Greenville and Hunt County.
